A police officer has been jailed for 26 years for 20 offences including multiple counts of rape and sexual assault on a child.
Stephen Hardy, 46, a detective constable with Greater Manchester Police (GMP), used his teenage victim as a “puppet or sex object”, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones said during his sentencing on Wednesday.

100% this guy is a piece of shit and fuck jail, he deserves to die. But this community is bullshit. Not all cops are bad, in fact I’d wager most cops are good. You just don’t usually hear about some one who is doing their job correctly, only the ones who don’t.
Cops who don’t do bad things allow other cops to do bad things.
Not all cops are bad, but the phrase most people use about a few bad apples is actually, “one bad apple spoils the whole barrel”.
Right, on! DevCat, preach! Every bad cop, spoils all the good cops till they’re all bad cops. A good cop’s silence is equal to aiding and abetting or maybe obstruction of justice. But, I’m not a lawyer.
“Good cops” Get fired or killed by their fellow officers.
Lots of news stories about both. Prison guard acquaintance once told me a story about not getting backup after “ratting out” a fellow guard. Nothing bad happened to him, but afterwards he was never sure if he’d get help if needed. He’s not a prison guard anymore.
If cops willingly look the other way while bad cops do bad things, then yes, they are all bad, just to different degrees.
We’ve seen endless mountains of evidence that this is a CULTURAL problem that has infected police from coast to coast.
I shudder to think how bad things were before we started forcing them to wear body cams, and before we all had smartphone cameras.
Did you read the DOJ report on the Minneapolis police department? There are no good cops. The only good cop would be a position that is purely about harm reduction, which doesn’t exist. Cops make everything worse, actually.
I must have missed the parade of “good cops” who were demanding his punishment after making them all look like shit.

There can be no good cops if they turn a blind eye to bad cops.
I married a cop, and I know what sort of BS happens in that scheme. If you give your least educated, untrained, and morally corrupt significant power, then things like this will continue to happen.
All ‘good’ cops are fired, resign, or are corrupted into bad cops, so no currently existant cops are good.
A cop who hypothetically joined the police force purely to do good and protect people is either supporting cops like this by inaction, corrupted by other cops to accepting this kind of thing as normal, or shoved into a closet desk job until they give up and go away. No matter how much copaganda police procedurals try to make you believe otherwise.
If someone is doing their job correctly and not speaking out/doing something against shit like this, they are still a bad cop.
We’ve seen overwhelming evidence that there is a general culture of all cops protecting bad cops.
What do you call a cop that allows a bad cop to evade justice? I call that another bad cop.
Every single day we see more body cam evidence, and published police brutality complaints, and hours and hours of public cell phone recordings of cops being horrific.
Cops have thoroughly earned their present reputation, and I don’t see them doing anything systematic to change it.
I’ll be the devil’s advocate: some cops (in my experience, a small minority) are good people, but there is no such thing as a good cop. Being a cop is morally wrong and anti-worker.
