Did I read that wrong, or if he gets fired in the first 4 months on the job he gets to take home $35,000?

I read it as if he gets fired he gets 4 months of pay. So even if he’s fired a year on the job he gets 4 months of pay.

Generally, I agree, but this article is weird…

It sounds like the Mayor tried to force the officer (who is the only officer in this city) to enforce an over-zealous speeding rule. And the implication is he didn’t want to, so the mayor put him on leave.

      Am I reading that right?

You’re reading it same as I read it. Sounds like the mayor wants a permanent speed trap, and the ‘chief’ (chief of himself?) doesn’t.

When nobody will answer questions, though, all we can do is surmise, and it might be something else entirely. Small town America gets kooky sometimes.

      What a daring comment.

I fully agree, but what does just chirping at every post do for this topic?

Better to talk about the specifics

You made me chuckle, and I hadn’t thought of all the ACAB and such comments as ‘chirping’. Chirp, chirp!

Back in the day before the gray, with no internet yet, we used to say “Fuck the police” and hearing it still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. More often it’s ACAB, these days. To me such comments are just commiseration. It’s saying, “What can ya say?” or “Solidarity, bud.” I’m all for talking specifics, but it doesn’t hurt, even helps, to be reminded that others share the frustration.

        Fuck the police, man.
