I collect every single potion in a Final Fantasy game, just in case I need it for the final boss.
I don’t know… what if this final bosses final form isn’t really the final?
What if there’s a secret extra boss afterwards?
What is there’s an extra secret boss if you finish new game+?
“Better save it for the final boss”
“Ooooo I wonder if I can finish this boss without healing, that would be a fun challenge”
Reminds me of when you get Super Cool Weapon when there’s only two fights left before the game is over.
That’s most annoying. I can live with chests and drawers full of potions. But imagine how much work an artist put into a beautiful item like a weapon or an armour piece, and then it’s never used because it drops from the final boss only.
Who am I supposed to kill with that superior war-axe anyway, there’s no enemy left? Give me these items mid-game, so I can enjoy and cherish them.
And then the sequel comes out and now that war axe is the worst item in the game.
Looking at you witcher 2
Every WoW expansion as well.
and there is no new game +
Scrolls are always the worst for me. They’re never used but they usually don’t weigh anything either. I’m carrying half a library with me near the end of the game.
In Skyrim (at least) I’ve understood that it takes a lot more time to cast scroll-based spells than…well, “normal” spells. One of the reasons I don’t favor over them.
My head-canon is now, that your character then becomes a merchant, trying to sell off these items. Thus helping the next adventurer
to hoardand completing the cycle.Nah, I’m a dragon I’ll just sit on it forever until someone vanquishes me and takes my horde.
I used to hoard items but found a lot of fun in liberally using things when I need them instead. Let go, try it!
Last game I did this was Elden Ring. It’s crazy how strong quite a few consumables are.
It’s so infuriating how few rune arcs you get in singleplayer. I never used the great runes. And the power they give you is so much less than it would seem with how rare the items are. Malenia’s is a joke
That’s true. I bought the ones I could, but it’s kinda cruel they only last until you die. In a game that’s designed to kill you. Honestly, they should’ve made them permanent.
That’s because the most consistent source for them is multiplayer. Help people beat bosses, invade, counter invade, all these give rune arcs and that’s pretty standard a FS game. Usually the humanity-equivalents like rune arcs also open you up to invasion as a cost, but Elden Ring isn’t that punishing with it, but they still wanted people trying multi.
The issue I have is that the game doesn’t have ultrawide support so I need a mod to play it. So I can’t play online. But yeah the multiplayer is super fun so I’ve turned them off once in a while.
I’ve done this for a while now and it does really improve my experience. Usually you are given stuff before a boss or hard part anyway and I’d have surplus anyway. Exception are games that are really hard where they’re like “wtf you didn’t save up for this fight? ooh boy you are going to die”
I’m trying to use stuff in BG3 and I struggle with it so hard lol maybe on the next play through!
The problem in BG3 is all the shit I have in my inventory isn’t the stuff I want to use. There are a few elixirs I really like but I never seem to have them or their ingredients in my bags.
Very true. At this point I’m just trying to use it to have some semblance of order back. It’s very irritating to try and order things on console.
Send things you aren’t going to actively use to camp. You can always take a quick trip to camp to grab them if needed.
I was playing sea of starts and there are some items that I planned to hoard be user who knows if I’ll need them. Well the item description says that it’s meant to be sold.
Thank you!!
Hey I was saving it for the final boss ok?
Same here
I hord it all then make the final boss trivial as I mercilessly use all the powerful items in my inventory.
That’s when they hit you with the fake final boss trope.
Skyrim, HP & mana potions, overencumburance…sigh…
Stop playing on easy and play on a harder difficulty.
You’ll get fewer item drops and those items will be more useful on hard mode.
I hoard harder on harder difficulties and end up literally never using resources because they’re so scarce.
In Alien Isolation nightmare mode I’ve almost always got a full inventory because I scavenge like crazy and barely dare to use my resources unless I absolutely have to.
Might want to seek help for hoarding then.
Items have a best use case scenario that’s often told to the player well in advance.
Choosing not to use items as a challenge is one thing but not having control at all is problematic.
Seek help for hoarding in a video game? 🤣
