Yay or nay on the idea?

I feel it’s about half way done or so.

I’m not really a narrative writer, but it has been fun both trying to string the pictures together, and to get the generator to make specific images to fill gaps.

I like it! Have you tried making more traditional comic panels? Wondering since DALL-E 3 now can handle text generation in speech bubbles OK-ish

No, I can’t get images with continuity. I will reuse a prompt many times and pick out the best images.

I still do a decent amount of manual photo editing to clean up what I decide to use. Something like speech bubbles would be much better handled in photo editing than trying to get them done by AI.

I think a lightbook type format is more plausible than attempting a full on comic.

I think the last one has too much of a WH40K feel (yet not servos). I get the bulky armor is a thing, but maybe lean more into the tech. Less on the skull imagery, instead of just a skull it’s something like some kind of vacuum-formed or sprayed material that just plasters over a lost eye/nose/jaw (and maybe burned, shrapnel/debris, fractures, bullet holes) etc and cameras or other tech are put in on-top wherever. Maybe even something that looks more normal (if battered) or even in mid/pre-patch just for the contrast. If AI will do it anything like that.

Not sure if it interests you but after my last comment (don’t get the escapist fantasies mixed up, cyborg stuff) I tried more SD. Had some luck with terms like cyborg brain / brain pod. It only seemed to half understand the point (sometimes giving vacuums, something that looked like a metal brain frog, or just cool/stompy robots) particularly when I tried to add any other context really.

I even tried mentioning exosuits/robotic exoskeleton/inside helmet etc thinking it would make the connection but it didn’t. That did make it generate some plausibly-brain-containing bodies (that look like ROVs or humanoid robots) but I think that is just coincidence (also nonsense designs/details).

Really I’m writing the fiction around the images. The fine tuning only goes so far I’m afraid.

I’m using DALLE so “cybernetic” gives me the look closer to the blue forces, “cyborg” seems to give straight up robots, which is a hair too scifi. I decided to lean into the skulls as a way to differentiate visually the red forces from the blue. I may try to tune it back, I’m trying to get something like heavy Russian Cold War era armor or cosmonaut aesthetics. Unfortunately I can’t get DALLE to understand many of the specific terms I want (or I get blocked by content filters).

Some of the images I haven’t yet show be do give the appropriate mix of a kind of cyberpunk brutal augmentation.
