    Aba el Lissan, Arabia (present-day Jordan) - Bedouin of Sudanese origin

    The place I checked didn’t have a date for the photo, but 1918 seems reasonable.

    This is an interesting photo. Aba el Lissan is where the 1917 Battle of Aqaba actually took place - where an army of 5000 men from the Kingdom of Hejaz (now part of Saudi Arabia), with naval assistance from the United Kingdom, defeated an Ottoman force of 1000.

    It’s one of the key battles of the Arab Revolt, and one of the British advisors was Thomas Edward Lawrence. It’s entirely possible that this man fought with Lawrence of Arabia in the Battle of Aqaba.
