why?
Livejournal was right at the end of the open internet and the start of saying stupid shit to a world ready to remember forever. It was a period of learning things the hard way with minimal stakes and a period when it was okay to say bad things on the Internet because we didn’t know better. The early 2000s was a wild time online.
He’s gatekeeping but his filter is a person who learned the same lessons about privacy, openness, and naivete as he did in roughly the same time. We are learning in waves and each generation is turning out to be their own person. He wants someone who knows what he knows and uses the same memes to giggle on the toilet.
