What’s the difference between a “pause” and a “ceasefire” other than that the former will not give Israel a huge pain in the dick?

It’s a way of telling them to rein things in and stop committing war crimes because our patience and support has limits. Israel will not agree to a ceasefire so calling for one would just make Biden look weak when they refuse. Calling for a pause is a warning shot and easy to walk back if Israel behaves better. A pause is necessary to ensure civilian safety and unnecessary once that’s less of an issue. Biden can still ratchet up the pressure without going as far as calling for a ceasefire if Israel doesn’t comply - have a little spat in Congress about spending, be less vocal in support, have a few slow weapons shipments, etc.

Edit: Calling for a ceasefire also sends the wrong message to the other side as well as our allies. He’s in a pretty tough spot.

Hamas don’t give a fuck about a ceasefire. Israel would immediately resume their assault once a rocket flew. Hopefully pause means an Israeli unilateral pause.

And yet it’s Israel that broke ceasefires in the past /:

Sounds like the US is preparing for a “Proportional” response should Iran do anything stupid again.

Yes? This isn’t the first time something like this happened, though the scale is different. Hopefully Israel upholds their end of the deal in the eventual ceasefire this time.

I would like to see a ceasefire for once that starts with Hamas stopping their rocket fire.

We’ve had two of those before, one in 2008 and another in 2012. I was referring to those when I said I was hoping Israel upholds their end of the deal.

If it gets Israel to the negotiating table, yes, they will.

Well, they’ll try to do most of the talking, actually. Hopefully Israel will be willing to listen.

Let’s invite ISIS and Putin to the same table while we’re at it. It’ll be lots of productive fun!

Yea negotiating with the Taliban and the Afghan opium drug producers we termed ‘war lords’ worked so well.

Bring along the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces RSF too why not and the al Shabaab forces too.

Maybe we should negotiate with Iran again too since Trump backed out of the nuclear deal. The Norks will want to tag along too.

While we’re at it let’s get the Houthi insurgency, M23 rebel group, Mara Salvatrucha, and the Sinaloa cartel.

Let’s get all the murderous psychos together that only speak the language of violence and ask them politely to stop killing. That always works so well.
