Considering that this is being looked at for I-35, the air quality questions should be asked. Some say capping could improve air quality, others think the opposite. If it’s capped and the air pollution doesn’t leak through the cap — where does it go?

Personally I think it’s ridiculous that the state isn’t converting the tolled bypass into the new I-35 and preventing through traffic on the huge ugly polluting gash running through the middle of town. What a boondoggle.

    Would it be possible to build chimneys with some sort of filter inside them to trap the smog?

      Yeah I’m not sure how they think covering one section of a highway will minimize pollution. The fumes will find a way out somehow, unless the highway is fully enclosed and there are exhaust fans that suck the fumes into air filters before being pushed out.

    Making 45 fre and i35 a toll has been mentioned in the past, wonder why we never went that route.

      Would require the approval of the federal government. I think the state of Texas would probably block it, also.
