why is that? Do you support the genocide of Palestinians?
It is absurd that in this day and age we still have to protest genocide.
Israel has consistently committed violations of international law, and perpetrated acts of ethnic cleansing and genocide, since the Nakba, of 1948.
It also has benefited from complacency and manipulation within Western media, and proliferated outright lies, to obscure such crimes from the populations in countries on which it has relied for support.
Much of the Israeli civilian and military leadership, including at the very highest levels, is fascistic.
The events relating to the occupied territories entirely derive as their root cause from such oppressive policies and events.
I suggest that if you are not willing to condemn Israel for oppression of the Palestinian people, then you should consider why you are participating in a leftist space.

The prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu is fascist, and so is much of the civilian and military leadership.
Israel is a genocidal apartheid state that is actively perpetrating genocide against the Palestinian people.

There have been rallies in Detroit.
I have reviewed the comments, including vote counts.
I feel alarmed by the doubts and animus targeted against a post that simply seeks support for the cause of Palestinian liberation.
Currently, the Palestinian people are being murdered by a genocidal apartheid state. The fascistic leaders of the state have boasted about their intention to inflict the genocide. They have consistently made racist characterizations and lied to cover war crimes.
The occupation is actively perpetrating genocide against the Palestinian people.
Such are facts, and any condemnation for Hamas cannot justify support for Israel, or its genocide, or its occupation, nor can it invalidate the legitimate and essential demand for Palestinian liberation.
I cannot respect any participation in a leftist space that is tepid in condemnation of Israel, a genocidal apartheid state under fascistic leadership.
Note that in light of the response, I wish to clarify that my concerns have not been intended as directed toward the community moderation.
Rather, I ask those seeking participation to consider their own convictions, to consider whether they are truly committed to opposition against all oppression, and to solidarity with all oppressed.
Many comments (mostly now removed) have embodied quite serious whitewashing and obfuscation over the basic facts about conditions for life of Gazans, those living in he Gaza Strip.
Gaza is often described as an open air prison.
Almost 2.4 million inhabitants, about half children, are incarcerated inside Gaza. At only 41 kilometers long, the Strip is among the most densely populated regions in the world.
Gaza is blockaded by land, sea, and air. No one and nothing enters or leaves, except by permission of the occupation.
Israel entirely controls access to clean water and electricity. Conditions are of abject deprivation, and have been described as like a concentration camp.
Everyone living in Gaza has lost multiple family members killed in any of the various bomb raids. The same population has been incarcerated for three generations, since the ethnic cleansing campaign called the Nakba, perpetrated in 1948.
It should be known further that within Israel is an entrenched culture of racist tropes against Palestinians, and denial of the historical facts of the Nakba.
I cannot influence how people vote on posts, and per my mod application I’m generally only available to perform mod duties in the evenings. This post isn’t just visible to [email protected], the entire fediverse can see, vote, and comment. I’m doing my best as a single steward of the community. I’m sorry if slower moderation in a low activity community is degrading your participation.
So, you are marching for the end of Hamas?
Does the US government support Hamas like they support Israel?
Palestine is under the thumb of Israel. Hamas didn’t shut off the water, electricity, and food for civilians. Hamas didn’t bomb the refugee camp. Hamas didn’t call for the evacuation of 2 million people in 24 hours. Hamas didn’t ignore the advice of the US general that lived through the battle of Fallujah.
Hamas didn’t call for the evacuation of 2 million people in 24 hours.
Yep, they just arranged a terror attack on sleeping towns and villages on a holiday morning, which ended in 1400 people killed, more than 1000 of them civilians.
What you tote as a bad thing: asking ppl to evacuate - is actually trying to save innocent lives. What Hamas does in response? Forbids the people to move away, to have that human shield in place.
Evacuation in and of itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The reason the Israeli call for evacuation was bad is because they were asking for a fucking miracle to happen. Evacuating that many people requires a level of logistical challenge that would be extremely difficult even for the US. Considering the IDF is cleared to kill anyone on sight, this was the plan from the beginning: make unrealistic demands, make it dangerous to leave, kill the ones that did manage to leave, and kill anyone left in Gaza. This is an ethnic cleansing of the worst sort.
If you and your people had been condemned, so far for three generations and with no foreseeable resolution, to an open air prison, barely survivable due to the abject deprivation imposed by your occupiers, who have killed much your family and of the families of everyone you know, and who have taken ever more of the diminutive parcel of land promised to you, as they continue to live in luxury just beyond the walls that surround you, then what would you do?
Tell me, tell us all, what would you do?
Think carefully how you answer.
If you have not lived under the conditions I have described, then the only answer to which you may commit reasonably is that you have no justification for insisting that you would behave differently from the actions you condemn.

You are being manipulated by your fascistic government, led by your fascist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Almost 2.4 million inhabitants, half children, are incarcerated inside Gaza. At only 41 kilometers long, the Strip is among the most densely populated regions in the world.

Racist tropes about Palestinians are widespread and largely unquestioned within the culture of your apartheid state.
Humanitarian abuses have been extensively documented, perpetrated by your Israeli Defense Forces, and administrated by your Likud government, under leadership by your fascist prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The settlements are condemned internationally as illegal actions for pushing the condition suffered by the Palestinian people into greater humiliation and deprivation.
It is beyond absurd, and a reflection of the depth of indoctrination you have endured, under the propaganda pervasive throughout your society, that you believe there is any validity for you to lament the lack of “working economy for citizens” of Gaza.
You have no understanding of the suffering in Gaza, and I believe you prefer not to learn.

Hamas was elected to power under legitimate elections by the people of Gaza, and Israel has supported the leadership of Hamas in Gaza, through a policy intended to make Palestinians appear to the world as extremists.
Hamas exists as a power within Gaza because of Israeli policies intended to make the Palestinian population appear to the world as extremist. Military operations of Hamas have entirely targeted its oppressor nation, and such activity could end as soon as such oppression also would end. Hamas has no particular presence in the West Bank, which is more populous than Gaza.
No, Hamas hostility towards Israel will end only when Israel ceases to exist. It’s written in their charter, it’s obvious from their actions, their spokesman says it loud and clear. All this while the liberal westerners nod and mutter “you poor oppressed thing, of course you are”…
You’re treading very close to genocide denial. Be very careful in how you respond, if you even respond.
7000 civilians have been killed in less than 3 weeks. Netanyahu has given the IDF clearance to kill anyone they see on sight. They’re bombing the designated refugee camp. They’re bombing hospitals and ambulance convoys. They shut off the food, water, and electricity to Gaza. They have the full might of the US just off shore. But sure, Hamas is the evil threat.

You are deeply ignorant about ongoing events.
Israel has denied electricity to all of Gaza, despite humanitarian pleas over patients dying in hospitals.
The earlier comment mocks condemnation against the oppression of Palestine. Especially under current circumstance, it certainly smacks extremely close to denial of genocide.

Listen.
Genocide is occurring.
Israel occupies Gaza. Israel blockades Gaza by land, sea, and air. Israel entirely controls access to Gaza. No one and nothing enters or leaves Gaza without permission by the occupation by Israel.
The closure and control of Gaza includes clean water and electricity.
Israel has denied water and electricity to all of Gaza, despite humanitarian pleas over patients dying in hospitals.
Israel has occupied the Palestinian people for three generations. Israel is an occupying power actively perpetrating genocide in Gaza.
There is no equivalence. Israel is occupier and Israel is oppressor.
Condemnation of Israel is not antisemitism, obviously.
You are quite confused.
Liberals have tended to deny, often bolstered by outright lies, the oppression of the Palestinian people.
I care very little about the Hamas charter. As stated, the rise to power of Hamas has been a deliberate policy choice by Israel, and freedom for Palestine is essential regardless of Hamas or what it has claimed. Indeed, before the occupation, there was no Hamas.
As such, your fixation on Hamas, and your impulse to invoke it as an excuse against the liberation of Palestine, is quite distorted.
Here’s my money on a Kent state or hard hat riot flashback, the government is not going to take it well they never have…
