A suspect in the murder of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll has been taken into custody, the Detroit Police Department said Wednesday.

Authorities say the suspect was arrested in Kalamazoo.

Woll, 40, the president of Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit, was found stabbed to death outside her home in Lafayette Park on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Woll attended a wedding the night before and returned home from the wedding at about 12:30 a.m. Police found no signs of forced entry into Woll’s residence. Investigators believe Woll was stabbed inside her home and then made her way out to her yard, where she was found.

A suspect was arrested and hasn’t been charged yet. Why do you want to know who the suspect is when they aren’t entirely convinced who did it?

Why not? Shouldn’t we get to know the names of people arrested by the police? Should they be allowed to withhold that information from the public? Seems kind of police-state-y.

Was he ever arrested? I’m talking about the police holding somebody against their will without saying who it is.

Calm down, Batman… Police can hold someone for questioning for something like 48 hrs without charging them if they have probable cause. Something like that – not a lawyer or criminal.

I don’t think Batman is very concerned with illegal police work.

Got a citation? If the accused is charged with a crime, yes. The article does not state that that is the case

“We’ve arrested somebody, but haven’t charged them with anything, and you’re not allowed to know who it is.”

It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to see how that could be abused.

Hypothetically, you get brought into the station for questioning. You’re innocent, haven’t been charged for anything. But….they release your name.

Now in the paper, gossip around town, articles everywhere are putting your name, next to the words “alleged rape/murder/whatever”

You are then inundated by messages, phone calls, letters, verbal threats, everything you can think of.

You’re innocent though. Do you not see how that’s a problem?

Sometimes people are charged with a crime and then found innocent. Should we keep defendants names secret until they are found guilty and all appeals are exhausted?
