Jesus. Imagine having your life saved from the fact that you grabbed the wrong kitchen implement to defend yourself with.
I think the thing that saved her life was being a white woman. A tea pot in the hands of pretty much anyone else would be a lethal weapon in the eyes of intruding officers. They get extra scared when they kick down doors, so “feared for their life” has a much broad definition in that situation.
