MARISSA, Ill. – An Illinois mayor who unexpectedly resigned from his elected post earlier this summer has been hired by the same village, making tens of thousands of dollars more in a part-time position.

6x makes it sound like a lot, but …

His elected-mayoral salary cost taxpayers $6,560 a year. As the part-time village administrator, Easton will make $36,000 a year.

It would not surprise me at all if the village administrator does a lot more work than the mayor, necessitating the higher pay. In a small town, being a Mayor is not really a full time job anyway.

yeah im in a decent sized suburb and most of the work is done by a manager that the board hires and mayor is somewhat symbolic. It really sorta runs like a condo association.

This feels like there’s something going on behind the scenes that the citizens of that village aren’t privy to. They mayor resigned to spend more time with his family and then takes a new job that pays more with the village. The optics are bad in my opinion.
