simple solution: leave your giant ass parking lot at the gate and force everyone onto a walking/cycling path. Might help with obesity problems if people had to use their legs for once.
On a cursory glance, this looks like Yosemite? Wasn’t nearly as bad when we visited but it did feel a bit weird just driving all the way into this dead end only to leave your car in some surface parking lot and THEN take the bus.
If it were me I’d set up a nice compact multi storey parking garage somewhere near brialveil where all the roads into the valley meet and make everyone who’s not staying the night park there. Sure you’re getting a one time disturbance of nature for that construction but you can build it partially underground and regreen the roofs - in a few years you’ll be hard pressed to tell from a distance where the thing is and you’re removing a TON of traffic into the valley.
You could set up a system of free use (e-)bikes and e-scooters throughout the park too
Yup, Yosemite. As a kid who grew up in the Central Valley of California, visiting Yosemite Valley was my least favorite (especially in the summer) because of the traffic jams. I really think they should build a nice train up from Fresno and/or Merced or something, and then maybe have cable cars going up to places like Glacier Point. And have what parking they do have be buried multi-storey garages, like you say, along with ample ebike rentals and ebike trails.
You mean this is typical? Wow then be must have hit a really good day to visit!
I went to Vail recently, and I had to take a shuttle from Denver. I was shocked when I got up there and there was all sorts of tracks from old mining operations. Why wouldn’t they repurpose those for new trains? The tracks are already there that’s half the battle
