A Walton Family Foundation spokesperson provided a statement explaining that its grant “supports work to highlight initiatives connecting young people to careers and jobs earlier in their K-12 schooling experience.”

Imagine that, the Waltons promoting child labor.

Surely no true Liberal would be so interested in maintaining the status quo for themselves and their wealthy friends.

You’re missing the point… Liberals and progressives aren’t the same thing. Trump started calling them that and the media glommed on.

Neolibs, which Donald Trump actually -is,- are the real threat to the rest of the world. They are the actual “Global Elite” that he goes on about.

Calling the left “Liberals” is just another case of accusing your enemies of doing the things that you’re doing.

It’s muddying the waters so it’s harder for the average voter to know what’s going on.

It frustrates me to no end that the term “neoliberalism” is a set of “hyper-capitalist” economic policies embraced and advanced by “conservative and right-libertarian organizations, political parties, and think tanks.”

That’s not “liberalism”: “a political and moral philosophy based on the rights of the individual, liberty, consent of the governed, political equality, right to private property and equality before the law.”

Did you respond to the wrong person in the chain? If not, I think either I’m misreading your comment, or you’re agreeing with my point.

Has anyone noticed that the term “liberal” is being thrown around a lot and “progressive” is actively ignored?

Because they want to fan the confusion between economically liberal and socially liberal. It’s probably done on purpose.

Because they know that “progressive” has a nice ring to it that makes it pretty plain what the associated values are. Everyone understands what “progress” means, and it’s generally got a positive connotation.

But “liberal” sounds like someone who abuses their freedom overmuch. It has been turned into a dirty word.
