And were originally associated with smutty comics/ advertisements! Basically animal pinups that were supposed to be edgy.

I’m not even a furry, but I really loved this video about it. (It’s long form)

I had to explain this to a coworker 10-years ago and she thought I was fucking with her.

“Go Google ‘furry’, but do it on your own PC. Can’t swear what you might see.”

“OH MY GOD! YOU WEREN’T JOKING!!!”

Well if you are not a furry then you might want to change the “we’re” to “were”

People aren’t original and are bandwagoning on whatever content gets traction.

I’m all for It while it’s fun, if everyone is original, then no one is original

I mean, sure, the dictionary definition says “created directly and personally by a particular artist; not a copy or imitation”, and I agree with that, but hear me out, I like these philosophical rabbit holes.

The definition says “not a copy or imitation”, so we are presupposing that those things exist, so something original is the antithesis of a copy or imitation.

Now imagine if absolutely everything is original, wouldn’t the word lose its meaning? Isn’t something original the opposite of a copy? If no copies exist wouldn’t it be the opposite of nothing? Or even itself?

Original things wouldn’t be original, they would just be.

If you scroll the main lemmy feed and get even a few pages down you’ll undoubtedly start encountering tons of AI art/porn lemmy communities. I block each one but it’s like whack-a-mole

I’ve definitely seen those, but never sailor moon specifically. I also don’t block them since I’ve already scrolled down far enough that there usually isn’t really any good content left to find at that point.

It struck me as odd as well. Those words don’t go together, like, at all. :)

And besides, GenX never give two shits about the Axis powers. The Cold War was our war. And while I didn’t hate the Russians back then, I sure as hell do now.

Born in 84, loved Saber Rider and The Star Sheriffs and the like. Never was a fan of that typical wacky behavior in Anime. Plus I liked Saber Rider and others in spite the art style.

And as time went by, I got more and more annoyed of being bombarded with Anime almost anywhere. (That’s how I imagine not being a Star Wars fan when new stuff is out) Plus it seemed to become a beast of its own with huge eyes, screaming and so much cuteness, it makes me puke. It’s just not for me.

And I loved Metro 2033, even though I never made it past the first two chapters of 2034. It just didn’t click.

So, no. No lefty, nor right. Only human.

it’s not all like that at all, and i guess i don’t understand the mindset of being annoyed by other people posting about things they like…

They never said, that they are annoyied by other ppl liking/posting it. They don’t like it, so they block it in order to not see things they don’t enjoy.

Thats how the internet works. Roughly 95% on the internet is not your cup of tea - learn how to find your 5%.

That’s me, but that’s not why I block anime. A lot of it on Lemmy is really creepy. Very childish looking characters, with very womanly features, in very sexual depictions. I don’t understand the appeal, and don’t want to understand the appeal. As far as general anime like Altered Carbon, or Ghost in the Shell, I think that stuff is pretty cool. But that’s not what I see a million posts of here on this platform, so I just added keywords to filter all of it out.

'71 here! We SO loved all the Robotech/Macros stuff back in the day. We’d never seen anything like it!

But yeah, I block about every anime group I find because it’s either hyper-sexualized little girls or furry fucking.

So for me, it has nothing to do with it being Japanese in origin. Hell, we were the original weeaboos. And for that matter, my wife is half Japanese.

As for the rest of GenX? Obviously I can’t speak for all of us, but I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone say, “I don’t like that Japanese/Russian/communist art/entertainment.” That would be weird.
