Is America really going to just walk straight into tyranny and dictatorship? It seems asthough if Trump wins again, with the gop and the supreme Court that’s in plane now, nothing would stop it from happening.

When the second amendment was written civilians and the military were on relatively equal footing.

Right, but if the US army wants a lot of civilians to die, or all civilians that oppose it’s rule, they’re going to have another drawn out counter-ineurgency effort on their hands. One that the US army isn’t well suited to fight against.
I get what you’re saying, but think about how many civilians would die if the US armed forces targetted Americans. People seem to think it would be civilians with their ar15s holding off armed police, but it’s just going to be drones dropping bombs and missiles on “insurgent” neighbourhoods. It’s already been done (but with a helicopter) in Philadelphia.
Think about how many civilians would die if Trump becomes a dictator… There’s no winning.
I’m not saying just roll over, my point is that this obsession with arming civilians to take on a military that spends more money on itself than the next 9 largest militaries (combined) just means a lot of civilians, armed and non-armed alike, are going to die. They aren’t going to mount some heroic defense and last against a military that can just Predator Drone a neighbourhood as an example.
I’m sorry but the average US citizen isn’t gonna fight, or we would already be out burning this damn country for well…gestures vaguely.
If it came down to shit like that, sure, some people might start trying to fight but then the military just has to carpet bomb a neighborhood or two and then the entire damn state would sit down and shut the fuck up like good little boys and girls.
If the GOP rhetoric is to be believed, best have arms and desire to remain free.
