I’m not saying I’m in favor of street justice, but I will give them a standing ovation if it does happen.
And I didn’t see a damn thing
Jury Nullification! The court can’t send you back for delivering the “wrong” verdict.
So hypothetically even if there’s a ten minute 4k video of you beating a cop to the death while screaming “Die you fucking pig”, the jury could say “Not Guilty”. They don’t have to show their work.
Unfortunately, it’s harder and harder to believe we’ll see real, meaningful improvement on the systemic issues involved in a case like this without a period of violence. I hope and pray we figure out the secret to peaceful revolution, if that’s even possible.
That said, I do not disagree with your post.
The US is fucking insane.
An 11 year old (who called the police, wanting to be protected) runs for the door after his step-dad gets violent, so police shoot him in the chest, and a jury looks at that and says zero charges?
If I was on a holiday to the US, and I was assaulted, I’m not sure I’d even call the police. That’s crazy to me.
Do not call the police. There’s almost no situation where they’re helpful to those in need of help.
The fire department and EMS on the other hand are underpaid heroes.
Yeah but if you’re on holiday in the US and you need the EMS Americans still advise not calling them unless the situation is too dire to get yourself there or you have good travel insurance ☺️🔫
This is correct. The only time you should call emergency services in the US are:
- You are already dying so it can’t get worse.
- Something is on fire and a garden hose won’t put it out.
My Paramedic friend said the same thing.
“An American ambulance is only for when you’d die on the way there otherwise.”
Sorry for the double post, but
On Thursday a grand jury decided there was no criminal conduct by [Sgt Greg Capers, who shot the kid] in the case.
What the fuck is wrong with that grand jury? I mean, presumably the prosecutor didn’t want to get an indictment and should also rot in hell, but the jury? Probably a bunch of cowards or assholes.
Though when I was on a grand jury, the assholes voted to indict on every charge. Sending kids to jail for selling pot? No problem!
There was a little old white lady who sat behind me. I asked her to imagine being asked to indict a black man for sitting at an all-whites counter in the 50s. Would she indict? She said she didn’t know.
Sadly, grand jury (at least where I was) was a simple majority, so I couldn’t hang the jury.
