Highly anticipated? I didn’t even know it existed until I saw dunkey making fun of it

Maybe there was mainstream excitement for it outside of the US/EU? I’ve no idea. I didn’t know it existed either until memes of it started popping up.

As a side note, I’m surprised they even went through with this game since the second movie was lackluster as hell. The first movie was somewhat groundbreaking for its time, but he definitely waited way too long for a sequel and it just fell flat. I didn’t even finish it, got maybe halfway through before losing interest.

I’m surprised people found the first movie groundbreaking. The story is about as compelling and memorable as a teabag on its third use

It was more about the tech used to make it back then than the movie itself. The story wasn’t awful, but you’re right, it wasn’t that amazing, either. I think the only neat thought experiment that stuck out at the time was the idea of what consciousness meant/what is a soul, which not many mainstream movies discussed back then aside from the Matrix. Of course, Black Mirror did a far more phenomenal job of this idea with their San Junipero(sp?) episode, but that was almost 10 years later.

No matter how rote the writing is, they do put a LOT of money into the otherworldly CGI. To some people, even if they’re turning their brain off, that’s enough.

It’s funny, the first movie did have a game. It was terrible. It was pretty much the semi-open area beatem up - if you played the pirates of the Caribbean games it was that style. Or like Ultimate Alliance sans character switching and ultimates.

I also couldn’t finish this movie.

The second movie was pretty good. It just has no right to be so fucking long.
