8·24 hours agoThere are claims, including in this thread, that the PieFed Devs have incorporated censorship of views that they don’t like on a software level, but I don’t see how they could manage that.
From a user perspective, they’re not much different. Both share the same technology and the same content, talking to each other freely. You can view Lemmy content on PieFed and vice versa. Collectively, they’re all (together with Kbin/Mbin) called the Threadiverse.
PieFed experience is more curated, both on user level and globally. It allows you to quickly customize your feed, but it also makes some big global decisions for you - like blocking right-wing media on purely ideological grounds, on a software level (i.e. on all instances, aka servers). PieFed also has a few nice-to-have features Lemmy doesn’t.
Lemmy is more of a wild west, a raw and less curated experience. All moderation here is instance-based, and you can do anything you want as long as it agrees with the instance rules. There are less cool features here, but also more freedom and decentralization.
Overall, there’s no harm trying both and seeing what you like best.
For those who really want to touch despite all the warnings: it feels mostly like glass. Peaks are not as sharp as you might think, though you can probably cut your finger if you’re very dedicated. Nothing fancy.

2·1 day agoIndeed, removing his full name is more of a good faith act. I don’t think much is to be achieved by leaving it anyway, so if someone is so discomforted by it that they ask for the removal - alright, I will. After all, we all need to remain good neighbors around here.
But, as you said, leaving your full name out in public and then trying to make it never see the light on the Threadiverse specifically is very inconsistent, and will likely fail at some point.

You will eventually open up, and if it grosses your partner out to the point of ruining your relationship, you better know now rather than later, when you’ve spent so much time together and have more to lose.
