They have played too many video games or watched too many movies.

I didn’t miss a flight over it, I was denied beer before because the lady at the store thought my drivers ID was fake, so I happened to have my immigration paper on me that day and showed her all the info matched. She said the paper expired so she couldn’t accept it, she was looking at the Landed in Canada Date, but she wouldn’t have it that she made a mistake.

BCsven@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Alberta, Ontario don't want feds to reintroduce First Nations safe drinking water law1·1 day agoIt’s why I moved out to BC. My son has a disability, in Ontario if I left him inheritance and he was on a disability program the Ontario government would take the inheritance. In BC they see disability and inheritance as separate items and leave it alone.
There are ways around it in Ontario by setting up a special trust fund, but a province that takes away what should belong to somebody is not a good province.
You could argue that he’s getting disability funds, but that is based on income and leaving a person inheritance is not income. And if it generates income then you should get taxed like normal, and disability payment adjusted to suit
BCsven@lemmy.cato Ask Me Anything@lemmy.ca•I took in a homeless boy last month, ask me anything.8·1 day agoAre you from America where you have never heard other English colloquial terms? Not being a dick, just asking. Because took in is a common phrase I heard in the UK, like I took in a lodger. And caught doesn’t always mean captured by surprise, it can be more subtle like a moment in time, like I caught a glimpse of him searching for food scraps. Shortened to I caught him eating scraps, etc. Meaning visually.

Yes money has gone into military spending and there have been other initiatives, but that is not appeasing trump, that is a “hold up buddy, we got to get our foundation established so you can’t wreck us”
Credit Union had a good deal last year, start moving money into savings and they’d give you bonus interest on top of regular for 6 months. Wasn’t bad $125 interest a month as we build savings up

OpenSUSE has OneClick install for RPMs. https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:One_Click_Install
Edit: and if you happen to download an rpm, you just double click it in the filemanager (or single click if that is your setting) and it launces the install GUI.
Its similar to how MSI file install looks…just next next finish kind of thing

BCsven@lemmy.cato Autism@lemmy.dbzer0.com•What do we do about people who are on the edge of autism9·4 days agoPeople are people, you treat them in ways they respond to. There is no real deliniation, is all sliding scale even with what we call “Normies”.
Some people used to laugh that I wore JoeRocket motorcycle gloves for my bicycle commute to work, and in colder weather I would don large leather motorcycle pants. (And low friction shorts over top because seat leather on pant leather is horrible)
But they work and after a high side flip turning downhill, it was the gloves ruined and not my hands.
And the motorcycle pants had thick hip padding.
