I always said I’d consider having a kid when it didn’t sound like an 18 year prison sentence without the possibility of parole. All that’s changed for me in the decades that I’ve been saying that is that the odds of the kids moving out around age 18 has plummeted.

These days, at least once a month, either my wife or I will turn to the other and say, “I’m really glad we never had kids.” Even my mother, who always wanted grandkids, has even said she’s glad we didn’t have any.
