Linux Questions@lemmy.zip•Why would I be unable to right click using the touchpad when using EndeavourOS with XFCE4 on a NexDock?English
2·4 months agoI tried running xev through the terminal and I can see the left click and touchpad movement but nothing when the right click is pressed and depressed.
In the “Mouse and Touchpad” settings in XFCE there is a click method option that I think is supposed to allow you to click right click when using multiple fingers but kind of like what you mentioned but that doesn’t seem to work either.
I appreciate your response! I am tempted to reach out to NexDock about this but I don’t know if they would have much to say considering it’s not a hardware issue and no one else really seems to be talking about it.
Edit: Considering I can have touchpad’s “Tap touchpad to click” and “Click method” disabled under the touchpad option and still click things I am wondering if maybe it’s use a weird combination of the touchpad for movement and the mouse actual clicking. This is the 2025 version of the NexDock.

Video Game Modding@leminal.space•What is the best way to have multiple modded versions of the same Bethesda games?English
2·4 months agoThanks for the comments @[email protected] @[email protected] and @[email protected]. It seems like MO2 with instances would be the best approach.
I do wonder if there would be any way to accomplish this with Vortex. It would be nice to be able to have multiple mod collections installed but the only recommendation I have seen to accomplish this is through creating multiple user accounts on a PC.
I have read a bit about tools that convert Nexus Mods collections to work with MO2. (ex. Mod Manager Migrator) but haven’t tried them myself. Maybe I will do that this month or the next.
Sorry for tagging all of you by the way but I thought it would be better than responding to the individual comments with more or less the same response.

Ask Lemmy•Gamers, how complicated is it to play games? (setup question)English
1·7 months agoIf you are really sold on the idea of consoles then don’t discount modding an older system like an Xbox 360 or PS3, once they are set up you can just pick a game and go.
https://consolemods.org/wiki/Main_Page is a good starting point if OP is interested in going in that direction.

1·7 months agoPersonally you need to decided what features are important to you. From my understanding anything connected to Meta requires logging into Facebook to use. For me that is a big no not to mention that I’m a linux user.
That reminds me of Oculess. I’ve never really looked too much into it but I wonder how well it works.

techsupport•How can I configure Fresh Tomato to act as an access point so I can access Samba shares on the other side?English
1·7 months agoI don’t know if that will be necessary if this is all the same network. I saw a couple posts mentioning VPNs and reverse proxies but they were all for accessing the network remotely.
Kind of similar but I thought VLANs might work as well but all I could really find online was people separating branches their network using them.
I appreciate the comment though.

It seems like I am using the laptops integrated graphics. I don’t think it has any nvidia graphics.

2·7 months agoI also probably wouldn’t play The Sims 3 for an extended period of time without mods like Overwatch or Saver from nrass.
Overwatch does things like shutoff TVs and stereos and find unroutable Sims. Little things that cause the game to get bogged down and eventually crash.
Saver saves the game periodically so crashes feel less soul crushing.

techsupport•EndeavourOS only booting from initramfs after update. Could use some help figuring out whyEnglish
2·7 months agoThanks for replying.
Most of the information I’m finding about this flavour of arch doesn’t reveal much about libreboot’s role in this issue. I’m not familiar with the device and online results are vague about what the specs are.
My main thought is If you’re using a Nvidia GPU or other proprietary software to run hardware, did you reinstall its software after changing the kernel? I’m not sure if your distro automatically does that for you.
I do not believe I reinstalled any Nvidia drivers but I am unsure. I do have the linux-firmware-nvidia package installed. I am just using the integrated graphics that are on the X200S. Maybe that’s part of the issue considering it released around 2008?
Are you using shim for anything?
I’m wondering if something went funny with your mok enrolment or if it failed to use the key to sign the module? Could test by temporarily disabling secure boot. (But would continue to fail if not the problem; such as the modules are compiled against the wrong kernel)
If by shim you are referring to the EFI preloader I do not have it installed.
My other thought was that I’m under the impression that endeavourOS uses pinned versions and swapping out the kernel puts you in an undefined state.
You might have some luck jailing it on an working os with the configuration you desire and regenerating the boot files. Same idea as using the rescue environment on a livecd. The last time I had this idea it was a big waste of effort. When I realized I could just roll back using a backup.
I am not too sure about how to test this.
Edit: maybe the drive is dying try testing it?
I have my doubts that it is the drive considering it seems to work fine within initramfs. I can run my X200S for days without issues as long as I boot that way.

Emulation@lemmy.ml•Bleem, the company that helped make emulation legal, is being resurrected and teases "the largest retro gaming project"English
1·1 year agoIt kind of sounds like they’re just trying to be GOG but maybe with some non-PC games.
I wonder if they’re going to take a game, bundle it with an emulator, and make some kind of launchable shortcut.
I can’t really see them dealing out source-port like games

Emulation@lemmy.ml•low end handhelds? looking for things around the 20-30 euro markEnglish
1·1 year agoThe Powkiddy V90 is pretty good if you want a GBA SP form factor.
If they already have some kind of handheld it might easy to mod their device or get them a flashcart. Like the 3DS or DS for example.

Thanks for the response. I doubt it is a hardware issue because I tried it with a Windows PC and it worked as expected.
It seems like it’s a combination of mouse devices not cooperating when on Linux.
I suppose I could attempt to reach out to their support again to see if they are tracking this problem but I’m not sure if they would have a solution given the wide array of possible Linux configurations.
