  • baffling that this isn’t bog standard anywhere that isn’t horribly car dependent.

Like, we have a bunch of big factories basically smack in the middle of my town, and people continue to drive the like 5 kilometers there EVERY SINGLE DAY even when they know for a fact that fistfights break out over parking spaces and the weather is perfect.
I genuinely wonder if there’s anything that could convince these people to stop driving, if they’d drive to work even if there was a 50% chance of being shot in the face when exiting the car.

  • I have to wonder if these are serious questions or just fishing for comments, because surely the point of seeking knowledge is utterly blatantly obvious??

When you know things you can use that knowledge to do stuff, that’s… that’s how you’re able to type out the questions: you learned how to read and write then used that knowledge to ask things.

And surely you already know some meaning to life: There are things that are enjoyable, that make you happy. Presumably you’re seeking knowledge because it feels good to know things. Well there you go.

  • that’s cool and all but in the span of like 5 years i’ve basically completely turned my life around and the absolute worst it ever felt was some DOMS when i wasn’t used to the exercise…

Yeah no this complete and utter nonsense, you can and should improve yourself without suffering, if you make yourself suffer you’re probably doing it wrong.
Your body can experience pain for a reason, pain means you’re causing damage and damage is bad. And if you constantly associate beneficial things with pain then you’re literally conditioning yourself to dislike it, that’s just operant conditioning which is one of the most basic behavioral things in general.

Pain isn’t virtous; What’s virtous is to be introspective, identify and acknowledge your flaws, then deal with them the best you can, seek help if you can’t handle it on your own. That is how you improve yourself reliably and sustainably, without ending up bitter or literally physically broken because you took exercise too far.

You’re the sculptor, but you’re not marble; You’re clay: and clay needs a delicate touch to sculpt, lest you squeeze too hard and ruin it.
