Allegedly secure, but no independent audit and closed source. Nobody should use this.

bike wrench•What are the benefits of presta over Schrader valves?English
31·3 days agoPresta valve cores are removable, so you can remove the core to put sealant in through the valve without unseating the tire bead, and can connect a pump to the valve stem without the core in to inflate quickly to seat tire beads on diffucult-to-seat tires/rims.

Fuck Cars•An engineer created this traffic light-free intersection monstrosity. Because, you know, cars and car infrastructure don't already take up massive amounts of space as is.English
31·8 days agoThis only works if drivers take the u-turns at full speed. The first driver slows down to 10 km/h for the u-turn, and the whole thing gets backed up to the point merging is impossible, and it becomes worse than a 4-way light.
The best chance of getting a job is probably networking, but everybody is too burned out to do that. We need local neurodivergent-only casual tech networking meetings.
But even if I find somebody I want to hire, it is almost impossible (see parent comment).
The job market is such a shit show right now. You would think hiring would be easy, but the hiring process has been taken over by bean counters who think salaries should go down because their are so many people looking, HR drones trying to hold on to power as they offer nothing of value in the hiring process, sloperator managers whose heads and asses have become even more indistinguishable, and neurotypical extroverted tech-bro wannabe executives who want everybody in the office to stoke their egos. As a developer trying to hire developers it sucks, and as a developer looking for a job it is a nightmare.

Fuck Cars•Seizing land by eminent domain...just to build a parking lot.English
45·15 days agoStory time. I used to have a house adjacent to a school. The city threatened to use eminent domain to take and tear down several houses on the block to add more parking for the school. One block away from a huge parking lot that always had at least 10 times as many open spaces as they were intending to build. At the first public meeting, the first question was “Why can’t people just park across the street?”, at which point they admitted that nobody involved ever came to the school in person, or bothered to zoom out on a map, and they didn’t know about it. The plan was promptly cancelled.

Fuck Cars•Most people want fewer cars, says Dutch academic Marco te BrömmelstroetEnglish
9·19 days agoIn The Netherlands, just like everywhere else, the people who live in densely populated areas subsidize those who live in remote areas, and everybody subsidizes those who drive, both with the cost of car-centric infrastructure, and the externalized costs of destroying the planet. At least here in The Netherlands, most people have the option to live somewhere with good public transit.
Why don’t you move closer to where you work?
Yes, NS is kind of expensive, but it could get more subsidies if we offered less subsidies to the drivers.

Autism•Does emotional control matter even as a Autistic person?English
2·19 days agoSure, you are responsible for your actions, but you are not always responsible for the results of your actions. Sometimes people/society force other people into situations where all actions will lead to bad results. And the people who force others into those situations love to blame the victims.
I am extroverted when around neurodivergent people and introverted when around neurotypical people.

Fuck Cars•"Public transit is only for people living in big cities, if you're out in the country you *need* a car to get places!"English
71·1 month agoIf we taxed private car use enough to make that break even, we could easily afford to have great public transit.
I’m at the age that the first train to the event being full is enough to make me go home.

212·2 months agoI’m not sure what adjective I would use to describe middle aged men with beer bellies wearing day-glo spandex and plastic shoes, but it sure isn’t anything associated with the stereotypically fashionable gay community.
Please do not try to use “gay” as an insult.
eksb@programming.devtomicromobility - Bikes, scooters, boards: Whatever floats your goat, this is micromobility•This new 32er is a cross between a mountain bike and a gravel bikeEnglish
2·2 months agoI get why mountain bikes are expensive. Strong frames, suspension, components that still work when subjected to mud and snow, wide rims that can take hits, complex tire tread patterns.
What do you get going from a $1500 road bike to a $5000-$10000 road bike? Weight savings less than the weight of a good poop, and tiny aerodynamic improvements that do not matter unless you are fast enough that your team is buying your bike for you. Oh, and electronic shifting for some reason?
