I brought up the idea of protesting reddit and moving to Lemmy a couple of times on the INTP subreddit to tepid interest, but if we wanted to get a few more people over here, we could try and let people know we are over here carving out our niche.

Not sure if a post was made over yonder or not, and I would not want to unilaterally decide to do so, but it could be good to have a few more voices in here.

What says the sub?

There are some votes on your post to gauge the lurkers, can see how that plays out. I’m not strictly opposed but I don’t think the subreddit seemed terribly concerned about the situation/moving. The mod there and a subset of users mostly communicate in the chat anyway, I think.

Of course I would be happy if more people to join and participate, and definitely am open to suggestions to that end. But if people are against it for some logical reason I’m not going to override the userbase here either.

Yeah, my hope is that most of the people over there didn’t come over. I like a small community that can kinda get to know one another and build something for us. My thought on the matter is that most people wouldn’t make the move, but some of the more adventurous ones (or the ones that have already jumped over and haven’t thought to check for a sub) will take a moment to check us out.

In any event, I will give it another couple of days to gather consensus here and if there aren’t any voices of dissent, I’ll make a simple post over there just mentioning that we exist.

        Sounds reasonable to me.

Do you think there will be any issues with this instance being federated with threads? It doesn’t seem like the admins of lemmy.world are going to cut them off.

I am of two minds when it comes to defederating with them (and other large corpo platforms).

On one hand, I want the biggest, most open communications platform I can get. On the other, I do know that the tactics used by these companies start with embracing the innovation and then smothering it with standards and limitations until it can no longer survive.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

I’m pretty wary of the EEE technique myself, I would prefer to defederate with them from the get go. But I don’t know how it’s going to all shake out ofc, or if defederating would even prevent anything. I am wary of the advertising bot swarm and increased astroturfing bs it will presumably bring as well, but hopefully the admins here are prepared to step in if it does become an issue.

I am slightly more inclined to ride it out and try to grow the community, and if it gets too polluted then I will release it into the wild or someone’s willing hands and head to another instance. But it’s not like the community has a ton of momentum yet, so if there were a time to move, it would be now… idk

Is there an instance that you feel has more sane defaults and that you think would be better for such a community to grow on?

I would have to look into them and their policies more closely, but at a glance, lemm.ee is one contender. I am ofc open to suggestions (always).

Alright. 4 up, 2 down votes. I’m making a post to let them know we exist.

Ok. If you’re an artist now is the time to whip out a better icon 😅

My artistry lay in a different medium. But I do have a friend that is a graphic artist if you would like me to ask them for something.
