Anyone who looks at China or NK and tries to tell me with a straight face that that’s not a picture of an even worse, more hopelessly entrenched authoritarian future is simply deluded.
The Chinese economy - by PPP - is the largest in the world with some of the highest standard of living in human history.
North Koreans had to dig themselves out of two occupations and a bombing campaign - bigger than everything dropped on Europe during WW2 - that obliterated over 75% of their major industrial center, without a Marshall Plan to bailt them out…
Then you’ve got Cuba, a world leader in biotechnology in the face of a blockade from the other world leader in biotechnology. Vietnam, a nation that crawled itself out of another horrific American war to become an industrial and agricultural powerhouse. South Africa, a nation that threw off the OG Apartheid State. Venezuela and Bolivia, countries that are in continuous struggles against US backed military coups to this day, yet continue to endure and grow.
To say - with a straight face - that these countries haven’t made enormous leaps in progress over the prior century is ignorant bordering on outright denialist. To compare them to countries that continue to be subject to western colonial occupation - your Haitis and Palestines and Philippines and Congos and American Indian Reservations - and claim their revolts did not bare fruit is White Man’s Burden tier bigotry.

The fucking arrogance, to think communism is an idea a German book keeper invented while picking through probate records in the 19th century, and not a way of life that has sustained humanity for millennia. As though the very idea of people being free from the raping and looting of landlords is some fad we need to improve upon.
