A Michigan man with a suspended driver's license was caught driving during a virtual court hearing earlier this month. A judge was surprised by what he saw.
Doesn’t sound odd to me unless you mean he drove there by himself.
I got my permit at 15 from just a written test. Then went to driver’s ed to practice and such for when it came time to get my license. IIRC it was down at my high school and I drove there and back with one of my parents along for the ride. It’s less than a mile down the road from where I grew up and even now it’s not a busy road.
Did my first highway driving and actual busy streets in driver’s ed.
Back in 1994, or so, I was in a driver’s ed class. There was one kid who would drive to class every day. Funniest damn thing. We were 15.

He drove there himself, without his parents. This was classroom driver’s ed. I don’t even think we had learners permits yet.
Does seem pointless, doesn’t it.
