I picked about 500 ml (2 c) this morning. My wife is away for the next three weeks so I’m going to try my hand at making and canning black raspberry jam.

I’m a mid-50s Canadian. I was raised during the transition from Imperial to Metric. Most recipes are still in Imperial measurements. The recipe I’m using calls for 4 cups of raspberries, 1 cup of sugar, etc. Since I’m Canadian and posting from lemmy.ca I gave it a half assed effort by converting the measurements into Metric volumes instead of trying to figure out what the berries would weigh.

I’ll put in the weight if you know what it should be.

Hey same here. Mid 50s I mean. Not Canadian.

It is funny about recipes, they state 1teaspoon, etc and then they will be like, 250g. It’s just nuts. Then it’s 4 eggs. No size, weight, etc. It even worse, 2 potatoes.

Didn’t make sense. But anywho. I had never seen fruit measured in unit of volume, either metric or imperial, so was just surprised. Liquids-volume, solids-weight/mass. With squishy stuff I suppose you could go either way.

        My pound cake recipe…

        1 pound of butter

        1 pound of sugar

        1 pound of flour

        1 pound of eggs

        1 tablespoon vanilla

the juice and zest of one lemon

        Easy.

Make it a pound of vanilla and all you need to remember is: BSFEV.

          LOL

My wife would kill me if I put a pound of vanilla in there. That would be a pound of bourbon. Heh.

Just between you and me you can also remember…

2 cups of butter, 3 cups of sugar, 4 cups of flour, and 10 large eggs.

I’ve made thousands of pounds of pound cake over the years. I don’t even look at the recipe anymore. Haven’t for years.
