I don’t think the joke is anything more complex than the wife catching the husband doing something she’s asked him not to do, but what he’s doing is just absurdist humor (buzzing around the room like a fly and getting stuck in the fly tape). But if anyone has an alternate explanation please add it!
Gary Larson has a very odd sense of humor IMO, which is part of why I like his comics so much. I wouldn’t say they’re complicated so much as sometimes his thought process is off in another galaxy that just leaves other people scratching their heads. The cow tools comic is probably the best example of what I mean.

Maybe I haven’t seen enough or I already got the reference but I don’t think they’re are many complicated jokes in farside that often
Yeah, whenever someone comes up with a complex social commentary or political explanation for a Far Side comic, I just remember Cow Tools.

I think the fact that “buzzing around the …” used to be a fairly common slang for “chillin’ around the …” might also play into it but I’m unsure.
