Wolves eating their own face, maybe? It boggles my mind how a party can campaign on shooting themselves in the foot.

In my experience, the cognitive dissonance and doublethink is very real. Around 2016, I was playing around with ham radio a ton. Local bands, like 2M/440, are dominated by older local folk and it was interesting to get insight into how party propaganda was interpreted.

Many times, I would hear conversations flip from how “Obamacare bad”, directly to complaints about how devastating medical expenses were and that the government should step in. This wasn’t unique or an isolated case and it shows how vulnerable people actually are to political manipulation.

There wasn’t really a point to this comment, TBH.

They don’t campaign on fair and universal rules; they campaign on authoritarianism to enforce the rules only against those they don’t like. I’ve already seen conspiracy theories being floated that Biden prosecuted his own son to make it look like the Trump trials are legitimate. They’ll make up anything to fit the narrative.

One of my more conservative friends likes to get riled up about gun rights 🙄 I have to remind him spending his energy worrying about drug legalization makes more sense as possessing drugs and guns makes you one of the criminals, not the “good guy” with a gun.
