I’m not sure what point there is to even spending any time ascertaining motive. It’s not like you’re going to use it against him on his court date, he’s dead.

Sorry… you don’t know why ascertaining whether or not it’s a hate crime matters?
If you’re serious- because that leads to additional charges. As it should.
There probably won’t be any charges in this particular case.
