16 years. I started out doing punk, but i learned music with 12 bar blues(started on bass). Then moved to more indie and stuff like the smiths/radiohead. I got into hip hop trip hop lo fi and stuff in my early 20s. Then late 20s I started getting into more rootsy music as well as finally really diving into 60s/70s deep cuts.

I’ve developed my own style for sure, probably a culmination of all my faults as a player, but it’s mine. I’d say my playing is a cross between Richard Thompson, Johnny greenwood, rory Gallagher, with some jazzy hip hop and soul tendencies all mashed into a psychedelic dark blues garage rock.

I never actually had a guitar hero when I was learning now that I think about it. I kinda got into alot of weird hip hop in my most formative years. But I’ve really buckled down on guitar for the last while and my fav guitar player is Richard Thompson.

*no I’m not as good as any of my influences, but I also think we as players never give ourselves the credit we deserve.

For the record: I’m more of a drummer. But it’s kind of a “master of none” scenario lol.

Sounds like a nice diverse background. And I agree…a lot of guitarists (and musicians in general) are very hard on themselves and underestimate their talents.
