Among [false or unsubstantiated claims surrounding the apparent assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump] are unsupported assertions that the CIA was behind the attack in Butler, Pennsylvania — where a bullet grazed the former president’s ear — and that the shooting was staged to paint Trump as a martyr.
While I didn’t think it was staged, I did have a post removed because I was answering the question of how someone might fake it. At the time I was thinking it was a silly mockery of conspiracy theorists, but in retrospect I am GLAD my post was removed lest anyone think I was serious.
Of course, are you joking? It wasn’t just on Lemmy, I actually saw it on Reddit more and then on TikTok (there were multiple live threads immediately after speculating this). Most of my friends who are MODERATES were immediately saying this. Why? Well, because Trump is a 1) known conspirator (for stealing the elections) 2) known for instigating violence (Jan 6th) 3) known for deceiving people and 4) known to be incompetent (fpur seasons landscaping) so if he did mess up his own false flag and almost died, entirely within brand.
There’s also the weird pose he did afterwards with his fist, and that BBC interview where some guy warned the SS/police about the shooter and they didn’t do anything.
