There is a cult of denialism around basic, verifiable, fact-based reality that has taken grip among a major cohort of the left. Its been supported by many in mainstream media, and even by a portion of the moderation here on Lemmy. And because of this “agreement” of experience around this denial-ism, they truly believe themselves to be “in the right” on these matters.

When this happened on the right, we saw this turn into the modern MAGA movement, because they had their denialism around basic reality validated by the election of Trump in 2016. Hence QAnon, J6, and project 2025.

Unlike Trump however, the candidate of this ‘left-ish’ (they are really the conservative/ right wing of the democrats) denial of reality attack has truly failed, in a frankly spectacular fashion to even manifest a mediocre opposition to the existential threat which is modern fascism. They were completely unprepared, and under tooled to address it; for over a year, they have been risking not only the US democracy, but the entire project of liberalism (eg, the very principal that we should even have civil society) on a candidate that by all mensuration, has been failing.

If we lose this election to Trump, it is not an underestimate to suggest that the project and idea of liberal Democracy has ended. The idea that Europe Democracies will suddenly be able to re-tool itself to fight, potentially, multi-front wars against authoritarian regimes coming out of Russia, the middle east, potentially even Africa, and almost assuredly within Europe itself (Hungary) should the US fall to authoritarianism* is laughable. IF the US falls to fascism/ authoritarianism, there is no further bulwark.

And so to convince yourself, so entirely, that the candidate who has been and is so clearly losing, is the only possible option you have, is such a special case of self-deception and gaslighting, that its important to make these notes and document it where we see it. It needs to be shown that this conversation did not happen in a vacuum, and that this narcissistic self delusion that put the entire future of humanity on the line did not happen in a vacuum. They were made aware of what they were doing; they were called out on it; and they proceeded in-spite of these warnings. They won’t be able to claim that they did not know better for the arguments were had. Maybe they had corrupt, also delusional media egging them on. Maybe they had slipshod, also fooled moderation supporting with biased moderation. But the records exist now, and because we had this conversation in public, forever.

Blue MAGA is real, and its here. Its the down-vote briggading and the apologism for Biden that has put Democrats into the weakest electoral position they’ve been in, perhaps in 40-50 years. Its the underlying moderation policy that is only selectively enforced when it calls out this movement. Its a science denial-ism and a dismissal of fact based reality. Its a support for fascist and authoritarian policies when they come from the Democratic camp.
