Guy literally just underneath this comment saying that “that whole thing was fake” in reference to the Tianenmen Square massacre.

It’s insane how some people will still insist that there are no tankies on Lemmy, and no war in Ba Sing Se.

I don’t see that comment. I searched for “whole thing was fake”, and your comment is the only hit.

I see lots of posts on lemmy complaining about people like that, but I never seem to actually see the people myself. I’m honestly not sure why that is. Maybe it’s just the kinds of threads I read?

(Scrolling and in this thread; there are a few deleted comments; maybe that’s whats going on. And there are also a few comments that seem a bit defensive - so I suppose those could be examples of the people the thread is about.)

“Is the tankie in the room with us right now” is a very specific phase I’ve seen so often that it’s clearly a specific talking point given to bad actors to promote.

It’s a common English saying, “Is the X in the room with us right now”, implying that the other person is crazy or paranoid. Not specific to tankies or their apologists.

I know that, dude. I’m saying this specific instance of the phrase as it refers to tankies is being used often enough that it’s clearly a talking point. Its common usage by tankies to refer to tankies is way out of proportion to its prevalence in the English language. It’s a top-down mandated talking point, like “blue MAGA” or “genocide Joe”.
