Sens. Tim Kaine and Katie Britt unveiled a bipartisan package of bills Wednesday morning aimed at making child care more available and affordable for families.
The proposal would modify tax credits to help working parents afford child care.
My immediate first thought. In the short term, I’d be thrilled with any relief because we’re hurting but the bill doesn’t come close to addressing the root causes of runaway costs.
Never mind the quality of childcare in low and mid-income neighborhoods. You couldn’t pay for a month of quality care with the extra $500/year (800? depending on the additional tax credit) of refundable credit.
