“An AP analysis of vote tally sheets released Friday by Venezuela’s main opposition indicates that their candidate won significantly more votes in Sunday’s election than the government has claimed, casting serious doubt on the official declaration that President Nicolás Maduro won.”

“According to the calculations, the opposition’s Edmundo González received 6.89 million votes, nearly half a million more than the government says Maduro won with. The tabulations also show Maduro received 3.13 million votes from the tally sheets released.

By comparison, updated results from the governmental National Electoral Council made public Friday said that based on 96.87% of tally sheets, Maduro had 6.4 million votes and Gonzalez 5.3 million. National Electoral Council President Elvis Amoroso attributed the delay in updating results to “massive attacks” on the “technological infrastructure.”

Calling the AP US government shills or the government shills shills?

I’ll say it. The US government should keep its piehole shut and let the international media, like the AP, handle this one, the evidence is damning by all accounts and their contributions to any discourse on South American elections are a negative.

Nah, the US should take point on this. If your goal is to get nothing at all done, then fine let AP and international organizations handle it.

If you want accountability and consequences then the US will need to get involved.

What do you propose that the US should do?

Exactly what we are currently doing. Provide an incentive for free and fair elections. If the election is proven to be stolen then I’d assemble a coalition of local forces to oppose Maduro. Hopefully backed up by other regional players.

Otherwise you’ll see more aggression from dictators like him. Venezuela getting aggressive with more than one regional neighbor like Guyana could be the outcome if Maduro isn’t checked.

Not at all what I said.

But the fact that you automatically implied that is what it means, is the reason the USAs word carries some weight internationally.

We speak softly and carry a big stick.

Nah homie, there is just no other country in the world that can project power at the distance and scale that the US can. Not our fault y’all are weak AF.
