I don’t know about Lee, but a lot of politicians in the confederacy should have at the very least not allowed into government. Instead the north pardoned them and allowed them to stay in positions of power which led to legislation that continued to oppress black Americans and furthermore, mythologies were built by confederate apologists that painted the Civil war as war of northern aggression and that it was about states rights (see daughters of the confederacy who popularized the confederate flag we see today along with commissioning a lot of the confederate statues)
I’d recommend the Behind the Bastards episodes about Lee. They’re recent - from this year IIRC and it’s like how can he be even more of a POS than you already thought he was…dude was a piece of work.
