Please switch to OpenChess, it is open source, community supported, and free. Yes it lacks some key features that chess has, namely pawns and rooks, but but there are several promising forks of the project that are working on these pieces.
I don’t think OpenChess is maintained anymore. Development appears to have slowed considerably in the last few years. I think Checkers is much more actively developed and it’s a fine alternative though.

That is true. In the latest patch of checkers they finally removed the infinite king me glitch.
