Now the recomendation is to wash around (not in) the wound with a mild soap and rinse the wound out well with plain water. Then, if you really want, hit it with some antibiotic ointment and cover it.

Saline rinse is another recommended method of cleaning a wound.
I mean, you can stick sterile saline basically anywhere you want on or in the human body.
