What are your use cases for such a device? Management of LoRa IoT devices at home?

Was going to make Meshtastic messenger nodes with them (or at least compatible with Meshtastic). Probably also throw in Painless Mesh over WiFi for faster data transfer and to not saturate the LoRA spectrum if a node is reachable over that.

Haven’t fleshed out any other use-cases, but that one seemed cool enough to spend some hobby money on lol.

        Cheers.

The Meshtastic project sounds interesting, sort of DIY mesh network internet of sorts.

Yeah, basically, but very low bandwidth (but also very long range). I haven’t played with Meshtastic much, and this would be my first project to use it. PainlessMesh is faster but shorter range. I figured I would try to combine the two to cover both bases.

The other hardware I was looking at was the BeepBerry (https://blog.beeper.com/2023/05/16/beeper-x-sqmfi-beepberry/) but it’s not in production at the moment, and no idea if/when it will be again. It has a memory LCD display which is better for battery and outdoor use. It’s PiZero-based and I’d have to add on the LoRA and GPS, but the T-Deck is the next best thing (at least, that I can actually buy lol).
