Putting bias in your sidebar doesn’t give me much hope for the community.

When you compare your thing to another thing, and shed a negative light on the other thing, that’s bias. You have a bias for your own community. It’s not a bad thing to have a bias for your own creations, but when you have a community based on unbiased fact and the first thing you do is show a bias, it goes against the spirit of the original idea.

For instance, leaving “unlike the most popular instances” off the end removes a lot of the bias. There is also bias in the “liberal/conservative” statement, which leaves open other political ideals which are now not singled out, and honestly sounds libertarian. Lastly, there is even bias in the word “spin” because it is often perceived negatively, and so you use a buzz word to shade the tone of the community, thus creating a bias in the minds of perspective readers. Bias is heavily dependant on the language used. A less biased way to phrase the sidebar may be something closer to, “We aim to provide news without political bias,” or even throw it back to Dragnet with, “Just the facts.” Whatever it is, it can’t be exciting or aggressive. Neutrality means sacrificing self-aggrandizement and superiority.

If you want to read news that is nearly as unbiased as possible, your sources will be limited. You’re looking at AP News and Reuters, though with some squinting you can squeeze a few others in as well, but I would stay away from any site that puts editorials front an center on their homepage. It’s just clickbait, and clickbait drives bias.

Objectively speaking, many lemmy instances/communities are biased, and it’s not biased to acknowledge that bias exist or where it exists, it’s not biased to state why your community exists either. If these lemmy places were unbiased already, I wouldn’t need to create a community for it.

So you’re essentially saying I’m biased for stating the obvious truth, which is a bit absurd but I appreciate your detailed comment nonetheless but I disagree with its reasons.

Also the reason I called out liberal and conservative is because I’m from the US and we live in a two party system, I’m not saying I’m aligning myself with the green party or anything but I can’t list every single political party or ideology so instead I took the two most popular that are opposite to each other.

CNN will always have liberal spins, FOX conservative, that’s just how it is. We will allow biased articles to be shared, but we hope that its bias from both sides when those situations occur. We also hope the community is diverse and is filled with people from many different political spectrums, and can have civil debates and discussions.

This community is nessacary due to many places that appear neutral because they dont outwardly state any sort of political affiliation anywhere (such as the News communuty, I’m unfamiliar with lemmy terminology) is biased.

If you don’t want to be here, you don’t have to, hope you have a great day.
