Coworker is on it. They are eating about a third of what they normally eat and aren’t snacking. I asked and they said they aren’t really hungry and feel full really quickly. They aren’t losing weight quickly, just consistently for the past 4 months. Anecdotally, it’s appetite suppression.
Extra anecdotal information: my father is on it, and he says everything tastes like shit now. He forces himself to eat, but doesn’t enjoy it like he used to. It’s pretty sad.
A family member got the stomach staple or whatever. Can’t eat more than about 3 bites at a time cause the stomach is so small. he can’t really enjoy the food if it’s good. Because he eats so little he’s constantly cold and tired. He also HAS to eat a balanced, healthy meal because he eats so little it has to be nutrient dense. He’s lost a lot of weight but also muscle mass. All his health markets are back to normal (He was pre- everything), but I think it’s limiting him to 1200 to 1500 calories a day and it’s not enough for his 6’2" frame. Motivates me to keep moving and cooking all my meals. It’s scary.
Wow, best wishes to your family member! Stomach stapling surgery is pretty extreme, and usually a last resort treatment. But I absolutely agree with you about being scared into cooking and exercising for myself once I’ve seen what others are having to go through for weight loss.
Three of our friends had stomach modifications. Every one had serious complications, one of the nearly fatal.
Years later one stretched theirs back out, one is still regularly under nutrient/under hydrated, and one is actually nominal other than having to eat tiny portions very often to maintain.
