In last night’s storm my tar rolled roof got a small puncture leading to a leak inside. Does anyone recommend or caution against a company to fix it?

I recommend fixing it yourself if you can. Roof patch and the fabric material are pretty cheap and easy to use. Just make sure to follow the instructions.
I appreciate your answer and it gives me some confidence to try it out!
Watching tutorials now to figure out technique and what supplies to get, like this one: https://youtu.be/B6d3a-cp45Y?si=TwOoIL45T09eN61A
And the process does seem fairly straightforward, like patching drywall just with a different compound
Very similar indeed. Making sure that the patch compound has a clean and dry surface to adhere to is very important. You can do this :)
Wanted to update, I followed that tutorial, got everything (except the primer, couldn’t find that) at ace, including tools, for $50.
I followed the guide, swept the area, filled the puncture with the tar, troweled around, placed the mesh, and troweled it all in place flush with the surface.
Yesterday’s rain was a good soak, and not a drop inside!
Thanks!
Awesome. Glad I could help. I would also consider getting some damp-rid and placing it near where the leak was inside. Try to get ahead of any mold that may form.
