It wasn’t a bad speech, we’re just not the target audience. Going “tough” is to counter bs notions that a woman would be soft on military (and it is bs, but your fellow voters are idiots). It’s something Hillary tried too, but she was significantly less likable so she mostly came across as shrill.
She’s banking on more progressive voters to assume she’s not really so hawkish, or in my case, focus on the domestic issues I agree with.

I found it to be an extremely pro-war speech. But I doubt Trump had problems with that part of the speech.
