If anyone thinks they’re different pictures, just ask yourself which administration will end the Gaza (and now West Bank) genocide.

Unfortunately, Gaza isn’t the only major humanitarian crisis we’re dealing with, and democrats are substantially better on most of the other ones.

Of course, I fully support (and have participated in) the efforts them to pressure them to do the right thing on that topic. Pressure which would be unlikely to have much effect on republicans.

Yeah, I’m not convinced that Democrats can be pressured to do the right thing either. They can hold all 3 branches and still fail to do anything meaningful to better peoples’ lives in the long term.

Still no Gaza ceasefire, still no universal healthcare, still no federal abortion bill, still no packed supreme Court, still no non compete ban. They’re just Republicans larping as not-Republicans.

You’re right. Better let trump win and end democracy so we don’t have to have these discussions anymore.

Liberal hyperbole as usual. Trump is the system working as planned. There was lots of outrage after 1/6, but nothing fundamentally changed. Nothing fundamentally changed by his being in office or his actions in office either. His immigration policies were retained by Biden, his corporate tax breaks were retained by Biden, his sections of border wall were maintained by Biden, his policy of letting Israel do whatever it wants was maintained by Biden. What actually changed under Biden?

Nothing fundamentally changed? The fuck country do you live in? Have you not seen the damage done by letting him have 3 supreme court appointments? And on that note, every “official” action is beyond scrutiny now so there are literally no guard rails if trump wins or steals a second term.

While I’d normally contentedly eschew civility in favor of directness and accuracy, a bit might be warranted in the event of genuine discussion between honest actors.

That being said I’m not genuinely convinced of SkyezOpen’s capabilities towards civility nor honesty as an actor.

Russia, as I’m sure you’ll contend.

Have you not seen the damage done by letting him have 3 supreme court appointments?

Huh, guess if Dems didn’t want that to happen they could have put a competent candidate against him. Also don’t think even he expected to get that many. I suppose the aging and cancer having justice could have stepped down during a Democratic administration but she was a bit attached to the job and power. Ultimately though I think Biden is responsible since he could have packed the court with justices any time during his administration and decided against it because of “norms”, assuming he has enough brain cells remaining to comprehend the concept.

And on that note, every “official” action is beyond scrutiny now so there are literally no guard rails if trump wins or steals a second term.

Interesting, sounds like another thing that would be fixed by court packing.

So is your narrative that trump didn’t actually do any damage to the country, or that dems should have worked harder to stop it?

My narrative is that Trump is the imaginary cudgel Democrats wield against voters in order to justify their cushy do-nothing jobs, collect donations, insider trade, and pretend they stand for something. It’s all theatre. In reality they either don’t care what he does or agree with him, because if they cared then something might actually change.

They rarely have held a clear majority in all 3 branches, and when they do that majority comes with a few DINO’s that hold the deciding votes. It’s dishonest to pretend people that never have power, have all the power to fix things. They don’t carry magic wands, they need 51% of the vote. Or in case of the Senate, 60%. Progressives will never have power if they are punished by the voters for never having power.

I’ve said it before, it’s a fucked up trolley problem where both parties will continue to fund and furnish Israel with weapons but only one party will add a second genocide in Ukraine.

Whatever happens in Ukraine at this point is pretty much whatever was going to happen to begin with. Russia has nukes. Ukraine does not have nukes nor does it have allies that have nukes. If Russia decides to pick up its ball and go home, it’s gonna make sure no one else can play either.

I think under a trump presidency the same result might happen faster and cheaper.

What Biden has a real chance to do is negotiate an end to this that ends up with fewer bodies, but he’s living in the delusion that this can end in a Ukrainian victory so he won’t do that. Actually if he’s coherent at all he might think that this is really juicing some defense company’s stock more than anything by having federal funds buying the Ukrainians more equipment.

This is an imperialist war by Russia to (re)vassalize their neighbor. Don’t be supporting the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine, or promoting defeatism here. Just because US = bad doesn’t mean Russia = good.

Oh I never said Russia was good. I’m not really sure there are any good sides here.

Anyone who’s taken a deep look into Ukrainian culture and recent history will notice their odd fetishization of Nazis because Nazis tried to help them secure independence from the Soviets because it was profitable (huge amounts of grain farmland), despite Nazis’ hatred of Slavs.

Russia is obviously being an imperialist power here, but it’s because of increased and illegal NATO expansion after the Cold War.

Obviously USA under the flag of NATO is an imperialist power because they want the grain land and chip manufacturing these days as well.

So while Ukrainian civilians are by and large innocent, they are caught up in something that’s been much bigger than them for a long time

I’m not voting for him again, but it’s not because he’s helping the Ukrainians defend themselves from the invading Russians.
