Another summer tragedy has struck the Columbus Blue Jackets.

According to a statement released by the team, Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, died Thursday night. Reports are that they were killed while biking Thursday night in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, close to their hometown of Salem in Salem County, New Jersey.

Gaudreau, 31, was the Blue Jackets’ top forward after signing in July 2022 as an unrestricted free agent from the Calgary Flames. According to a public post on a popular wedding site, he and Matthew Gaudreau were scheduled to be groomsmen in their sister Katie’s wedding Friday in Philadelphia. Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, is listed as maid-of-honor.

It wasn’t a ‘bike accident’ it was a drunk driver plowing into him and his brother the night before their sister’s wedding. I hope this guy is able to spend a LOT of time in prison to consider what he has done.

Our fucking stupid car enslaved cities claim another person’s life. It happens hundreds of times per day, thousands around the world. We have to change how we build our transit infrastructure to stop this horrific death mill we call roads.

      Hyperbolic? Maybe. Wrong? Not really.

Don’t worry, “paint is infrastructure”. Bikers don’t need protected bake lanes, or even dedicated lanes at that.

Sure, let’s blame something that can be done safely because some dumdum tried to do it while drunk. Hmm… there’s a piece of the puzzle missing. I wonder what it can be?

Also, I second prison. Plenty of time to think about it.

Great work making this tragedy about your wacky crusade against effective transportation.

I hear you can drink quite a bit and still handle public transit just fine.

Or even get a car to come pick you up! Friends, family members, even commercial services specifically designed to take you places!

When available though, public transit is the best option.
