Personally, I find myself struggling with the difference between the g and ğ sounds, even after somebody with a native language that has both explained it to me.

I’m not sure that’s the same scenario, they just have very soft ‘b’ sounds that aren’t plosive like they are in English. I don’t think native Spanish speakers can generally differentiate between them either except by context.
