The Boston Transportation Department reports the dedicated bus/truck lanes on Summer Street in South Boston failed and so it's going to eliminate them and return the road to its basic configuration of two general travel lanes in each direction. Read more.
Exclusive bus lanes don’t work without strict enforcement, and even then it’s still suspect.
You need to isolate the transit from cars for it to work, raised lanes, trains and trams or barriers.
The one on the Tobin drives me insane. People who use it are breaking the rules, people who don’t are stuck in worse traffic and buses run no faster.
I am all for alternative modes of transportation, but if they are stuck in the same traffic as cars, people will still choose to drive.
Invest in better MBTA infra and expansion. Create more protected bike lanes, expand side walks and reduce speeds.
