I just saw The Substance on Thursday in a fairly full theater. I really enjoyed the movie and the last 30 mins was batshit insane and a fun viewing experience in a packed room.
While I really enjoyed it and gave it 4.5 stars on letterboxd, my gf was physically uncomfortable for a lot of the movie and didn’t like it nearly as much as I did.
Just looking to hear other people’s opinions who have seen it already. It’s been getting a lot of buzz in the movie channel with my discord friends.
Great editing and practical effects. I thought the ending could have been trimmed down a bit but overall had an excellent time. Acting was on point too.
Agreed. I think the metaphors and message was delivered in a clever if malicious way. But the ending would have worked as well if not better if trimmed down a bit.
The fight felt a bit lengthy and everything after the second substance dose onward could have done with some trimming Imo.
The practical effects were fantastic and also the body horror versus gloss contrast worked really well for me.
